Rob Forman: Mid Atlantic Sales - Avid

Penny wasn't able to make the meeting so no one took notes. This is all from memory

The meeting was at EFX.

Turn out was low for this meeting so pretty much everyone who bought a raffle ticket won something. Rob Forman gave a shortened version of Avid's NAB presentation sticking mainly to the video side of new products. He discussed new features in Media Composer 3.5. Talked about AMA, mixing resolutions in the timeline, DS v10.1. A very quick mention of the new Red workflow.

He told us about Avid Satellite (I'm pretty sure that's the name) It will let a Protools V8 rig chase a v3 or higher Media Composer via ethernet for video playback. This keep you from having to export a quicktime or lay to tape for a reference movie in Protools. It does tie up to machines though. It is software only, so no extra box or card to buy. This will be demo'd at Atlantic Video in June. The dates will be posted on the home page. Bruce had a copy of MC v3.5 on a powerbook and we all looked over some of the new stuff like AMA.

Sonny Tohan: Mac Business Solutions – host of this meeting

Dave Hemley:

He is the senior business development Manager for Adobe and also runs his own business called Digital Imaging/Digital Video
His contact information is dhelmly@adobe.com or 410-267-1270
www.blogs.adobe.com/davtechtable

Dave demos the Adobe Creative Suite 4 (CS4) – production premium, cost @ $1699
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, v4.0.1

Dave announces that there is a new plug-in in CS4 that will allow you to import your AVID projects.  With this plug in you can attach to your Avid servers and works with them in the Avid workflow.

Vista64 is highly recommended for PC Users, as opposed to regular Vista32.

DVCPROHD – uses P2 card to store media
You can mix P2, Red and XDCAM footage on the timeline in premiere pro and you can play directly off from the P2 card.   This also works if you have a camera with a hard drive in it where you have your footage stored.

You can switch back and forth between software programs like Encore, Photoshop, Premiere and Onlocation easily but you will have to make sure the computer is running with 4 GB of RAM minimum on the Mac.
